About Daniel Oketch

I came to the United States in 2007 on a track scholarship to Middle Tennessee State University with $50 in my pocket. For me that was a lot of money, it was the best my parents could provide to send me off to America, and it was a big investment. As a prior 200 meter sprint National champion of Uganda I knew everything was going to be alright... it wasn't.
A terrible injury ended my scholarship the very next year and I struggled to find another scholarship to Oklahoma City University, which I also lost. I came back to my dorm room only to find I had been evicted. All my property packed and boxed up in someone's office. I had to borrow a friend's car and started looking for a place to go. With no family in the country, my worries seemed insurmountable. But with incredible determination I struggled, delivering the Virginia Pilot newspaper at night and working odd jobs by day. I eventually received my green card and joined the Navy where I quickly became the junior Sailor of the year, completed my bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems and was recruited by the Special forces to serve as interpreter in Africa. I earned my Joint Services Commendation Medal and was personally given challenge coins for excellence.
I eventually got out of the Navy and started working as a contractor in California. In 2017 I moved to Virginia, and after divorce, bought my own house in Virginia Beach after years of renting. I have now started my Real Estate career helping others realize the dream of buying their own property.
